The CERGE-EI Foundation is one of the key supporters of economics education in the former communist countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the southern Caucasus and Central Asia. Our goal is to drive up the standard of economics education and so help to ensure that the countries in the region remain on the path towards economic and personal freedom.

The Foundation actively seeks additional donors for its three core areas of activity:

CERGE-EI students come from over 30 countries, in both the post-communist sphere and from other emerging economies. There are a number of opportunities to support CERGE-EI: Donors may choose to fund fellowships for students, support faculty positions, research seminars and projects, expand the library collection, and many other. Support may be directed to specific regions, CERGE-EI educational programs, and student groups.

The Program provides financial and professional support to newly-qualified academics who choose to work in the region, expanding access to high-quality economics education. It is active in most countries across the region. Donors may direct their giving to specific countries or choose to support specific initiatives within the Program.

  • $50,000 funds a three-year Teaching Fellowship, enabling a young scholar to teach, mentor, and build capacity at a local university.

Through training and active workshops, this program strengthens the teaching skills of local faculty across the region. The Faculty Development Program is active in most countries across the region. Donors may direct their giving to specific countries.

  • $18,000 supports a week-long, in-person faculty training at a local university, equipping participants with new teaching and research skills.

The Distance Learning Program delivers economics courses taught by international faculty and live-streamed to multiple partner universities across the region. This program expands access to high-quality education where local capacity may be limited.

  • $4,000 covers the cost of delivering one live-streamed DLP course free of charge to participating institutions.  â€‹â€‹

  • To ensure sustainability, partner universities also have the option to co-finance or fully cover the cost of courses directly. This allows institutions to invest in strengthening their own economics education while freeing up donor funds to expand the program further.

Every gift — large or small — helps us sustain and expand these programs. Whether it is funding a $4,000 Distance Learning course, providing $18,000 for faculty training, or supporting a $50,000 Teaching Fellowship, your contribution creates lasting impact by bringing world-class education and expertise to the region.
