Jan Švejnar

Jan Švejnar is currently Professor of International and Public Affairs at the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University in New York and is the first Director of SIPA's Center for Global Economic Governance. Prior to this position, from 1996 to 2011 Professor Švejnar was Director of the International Policy Center at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, the Everett E. Berg Professor of Business Administration, and Professor of Economics and Public Policy at the University of Michigan. He has also taught at the University of Pittsburgh and at Cornell University.

 

Jan Švejnar is a founder of CERGE-EI, and he has served as Chairman of CERGE-EI's Executive and Supervisory Committee from 1991 to the present, as President of the CERGE-EI Foundation from 1991 to 1999, and Director of EI (the Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic) from 1992 to 1997.

 

Professor Švejnar's service outside CERGE-EI includes being Co-Editor of the Economics of Transition. He is also a Fellow of the European Economic Association and Research Fellow of the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR, London) and Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA, Bonn). From 1996 to 2004, Professor Švejnar was the Executive Director of the William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. He has also served as Co-Director of the Transition Programme at CEPR, President of the Association for Comparative Economic Studies, President of the International Association for the Economics of Participation, Associate Editor of the Journal of Economic Perspectives, Governing Board member of the European Economic Association, and advisor to numerous policy makers, institutions and firms.

 

Jan Švejnar received his B.S. from Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations and his MA and Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University.
